North Peninsula Recreation Center is taking registrations for Nikiski Youth Basketball.  Teams are available for 3rd/4th and 5th/6th grade boys and girls, both coed and interleague.  The deadline for interleague is September 9th, coed registration is September 26th.  For more information call NCRC staff at 776-8800.

Kenai Peninsula Fill The Boot Fundraiser On Tap

The Kenai and Soldotna Firefighters plus volunteers from the Kenai Peninsula Central Emergency Services will hold their annual “Fill-the-Boot” campaign!  This is to benefit the Alaska Chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association and will be held 11am to 5pm September 2nd and 3rd at the Soldotna “Y” intersection.   Checks payable to MDA, Alaska Chapter, will be accepted.  For more information contact Gary Hale or Wes Perkins from CES at 262-4792 or Alaska MDA at 1-800-478-5683.

Kenai Challenger Learning Center Hosts Fundraiser

The Kenai Challenger Learning Cneter of Alaska is having a geocache rally fundraiser on September 17th from 10am to 7pm.  The day starts with a pancake breakfast, and then participating teams will work together to solve strategic GPS and science challenges.  Entertainment, a barbeque and prizes will follow the search.  The center is looking for cache site sponsors. KPC Faculty Display Their Talent

                Kenai Peninsula College will be having an upcoming exhibit specifically designed to show art from the art department faculty for their students. Taz Tally is an amazing photographer who specializes in black and white photography and is a new adjunct art professor for KPC. Tally has a doctorage in geology and has been a university professor teaching geology, geopgraphy, and environmental studies. Currently, Tally teaches photoshop classes at KPC and teaches creative digital photography at the Kachemak Bay campus. Tally is an avid hiker, biker, kayaker, and skier and his interest in science and passion for landscape photography led him to write the book “50 Hikes on Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula.”                Jean Steele is the other … Continue reading

The Alaska State Fair starts next week on Thursday, August 25th and ends Monday, September 5th.The Alaska State Fair is home to record-setting giant vegetables and beautiful flower gardens. If you are wanting to save on admissions prices then make sure to buy your tickets now! If you purchase your admissions tickets before August 25th for Monday-Thursday then adults get in for $9 and youth/seniors get in for just $5. Kenai Central High School has a new head coach, John Marquez, that was hired before this season to continue the Kardinals’ successful tradition. Part of that traditional is that the Kards have yet to yield a point to third-year Skyview head coach Eric Pomerleau. Kenai Central started off the season with a great start by defeating Eielson 44-22. The Panthers opened up their season by defeating large-schools opponent Wasilla 32-20.
