The lighting of the Soldotna Christmas tree will be held Thursday, December 1 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Soldotna Fire Station. Bring your children to meet Santa!! If you bring your digital camera you can take a photo of your child with Santa, and every child will receive a gift bag from him!! The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge will be holding its first moonlit snow shoe walk on December 9 from 5 to 6:30. The snow shoe walk is for anyone 12 and older! You MUST pre-register. Get ready to register for the Kenai Peninsula‘s 2012 “Way Out Women” (WOW) snowmachine ride that benefits cancer patients throughout the Kenai Peninsula. The group raises money each year with this ride to benefit the local oncology patients. You can sign up individually or as a team and are asked to gather pledges of $100 or more per person. WOW funds are used in many different ways including transportation to Anchorage for radiation treatment, purchasing medications, and assisting with other financial burdens that come with having cancer. The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge will be opening up tomorrow, November 24 for Christmas tree cutting! The trees are free and for personal use only. You may cut down one tree, with hand tools, per household with no permit required. All of the trees may be taken from anywhere on the refuge except within 150 feet of the road, lake, stream, trail, campground, or picnic area. There is also no tree cutting permitted in the refuge headquarter area along Ski Hill Road. Everyone is requested to trim the stumps as close to the ground as possible. The Kenai Peninsula Christian men and women will be uniting for Project Hope. This will be a Christmas party for the homeless and the community. There will be a free meal, silent and live auction, dollar dances, door prizes, games for children, and pictures with Santa.
